The region

Spots op West takes place every year in Westouter, a little village in the community of Heuvelland that's part of the Westhoek region. The Westhoek is located in Flanders, the Dutch/Flemish speaking part of Belgium. It's a distant, rural region, but at the same time centrally located and accessible. Westouter, Heuvelland and Ieper/Ypres are after all at a short distance from London, Lille, Paris and Brussels.

The Westhoek is a very rural and sparsely populated area, but at the same time innovative when it comes to technology and development. The city closest to Westouter is Ieper/Ypres, where the international Congress of AITA/IATA will take place during the Spots op West 2015 festival.

The Westhoek has great historical significance because from 1914 till 1918 the area was a battlefield on the frontline in World War I. The region is visited every year by thousands of foreigners who have lost a relative in this war or have heard stories from a survivor.

The Westhoek lends itself well for a weekend or week in nature and peace. Hikers and cyclists can enjoy the landscapes to their heart's content.
